Bates College and its optional-SAT admissions policy were featured on ABC "World News" on Sunday, October 8, and the video is now available on the Bates Web site.

In the broadcast story, "Beginning of the End of the SAT?," ABC "World News" reporter Bob Jamieson stated that "at a growing number of the country's best liberal arts colleges — one fourth of the top 100, as measured by U.S. News & World Report — the SAT has outlived its usefulness. It is no longer required for admission. Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, was one of the first to drop the requirement, 22 years ago."

The ABC Web site offers information that did not appear in the Oct. 8 televised story, including a list: "27 Top Colleges Don't Require the SAT or ACT."

Also, a Sept. 20 NBC "Nightly News with Brian Williams" story briefly mentions Bates' 20-year study of optional SATs. Its title: "Will the SAT soon be history? Why hundreds of colleges no longer factor test into admissions."
