Sylvia Federico received the BA from the State University of New York at Purchase, and the MA and PhD from Indiana University. She joined the Bates faculty in 2005 after teaching medieval literature in the School of English at the University of Leeds for several years. She is author of New Troy: Fantasies of Empire in the Late Middle Ages (U of Minnesota Press, 2003), along with numerous articles on Chaucer and Ricardian literature. Current research interests include the relationship between Chaucer and Walsingham, as well as theories of medieval historiography. Recent courses taught at Bates include Tolkien’s Middle Ages, Chaucer, Arthurian Legend, and Medieval Romance.
