Henry John Walker is a Lecturer in Classical and Medieval Studies at Bates College. He received his B.A. in Classics from Trinity College Dublin (1982) and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Classics from Cornell University (1985 and 1989).

Walker's research is on myth and social ideals in the ancient world. He has published Theseus and Athens (Oxford 1995), a work that studies the concept of the hero-king in Athens, and a translation of Valerius Maximus' Memorable Deeds and Sayings (Hackett 2004), a collection of stories that reveals Roman attitudes on a wide range of social issues. He is currently studying Sanskrit and working towards a book on the Indian Ashvins and the Greek Dioscuri.
