Job Search Preparation
- Research the company and the type of position you are seeking (through company’s website, press releases, search engines)
- Identify networking contacts among Bates alumni by searching the directory of the Bates Online Community
- Contact the OCS for assistance with your resume and cover letter
- Thoroughly edit and proofread your resume and cover letter
- Make sure that your email address and voice mail messages are appropriate
- Respond to inquiries in a timely manner, whether it's providing additional materials or scheduling an interview
- Follow up with your networking contacts - share the developments of your job search
- Have another pair of eyes review your application materials
- Plan ahead - Don't wait until the last minute to apply!
