Ladd Interns who are International Students and who are paid directly by their Ladd sponsors must complete an Immigration and Naturalization Service form that allows you to work in the United States for the summer off-campus. See Dean Reese in the Dean of Students Office for more information about this form. There is a $100 charge when submitting the form to the INS. There may be a considerable wait for the form to be processed by US officials in the Service Center in Vermont--one month usually, but as much as two months sometimes. Consequently, early completion of the form is recommended; complete the form when you submit your candidate materials to the OCS and as soon as you learn that you have been awarded a Ladd Internship take the form to Dean Reese for final processing. NOTE: summer work off-campus is allowed by the INS only by using a portion of the 12 months practical training authorization normally available to each International Student after graduation. If you work for two or three months during a summer, those months will be deducted from your post-graduation Visa. If you are awarded a Ladd Internship which is paid by the College rather than by your sponsoring organization, you do not need to complete the federal form or seek permission to work. The time spent on your internship will not be deducted from your Visa. |
