Arlene MacLeod completed her undergraduate degree in government and history at Bowdoin College (1977). She has an M.A., M.Phil., and Ph. D. from the Political Science Department at Yale University (1987). She is the author of Accommodating Protest: Working Women, the New Veiling and Change in Cairo (Columbia University Press, New York, 1991), as well as several articles on women and political change. Her research areas are in political theory; area studies (Middle East and China); and women and politics. Current interests include the study of political imagination, politics and literature, and alternative forms of writing politics, such as the personal essay and historical fiction.
