Softball Ends Season with Wins Over Monks
5/4/2005

STANDISH, Maine - The Bates College softball team took both games of a doubleheader against Saint Joseph's College  on Wednesday. The Bobcats won the first contest, 3-0, and the second 13-0. Bates finished the 2005 campaign with a 12-10 record. The Lady Monks ended the season with a 12-25 record.

The top of the line-up for Bates fueled the offense in game one. Hitters 1-4 accounted for seven hits, three runs scored and one RBI. The three runs were more than enough support for Bates pitcher,

Sarah Klenakis, (Springfield, Mass.), who pitched a complete game shutout for the win, giving up only three hits, two walks and recording four strikeouts.

Senior Darcy Lee (Windham, Maine) had two hits for Saint Joe's and senior Kahler Dowling (Augusta,

Maine) pitched a complete game in the loss, giving up eight hits, no walks and recording six strikeouts.

The Bobcats recorded 16 hits and scored 13 runs to win game two in six innings (10-run rule). Kyla

Decato (Paris, ME) led Bates at the plate, going 4 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

In addition to Decato, the Bobcats had five other players with two hits.

Sarah Klenakis, (Springfield, MA), earned her second shutout win of the day for the Bobcats, giving up six hits, no walks and recording two strikeouts.

Senior Kahler Dowling (August, Maine) and sophomore Sarah Martin (Athol, Mass.) each recorded two

hits for St. Joe's. Senior Allyson Ferguson (Sabattus, Maine) pitched 5 1/3 innings in the loss, giving up 15 hits, 13 runs, one walk and recording five strikeouts.
