"A Musical Painting Comes to Life" to be performed at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine -- "A Musical Painting Comes to Life," a recital of music related to Edgar Degas' painting "The Orchestra of the Opera," will be performed by bassoonist David DeBolt and pianist Timothy Wallace on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the Olin Arts Center Concert Hall. The program includes "Medea" by Luigi Cherubini, "Cavatina" by Gioacchino Rossini and "Concerto in B-flat Major, KV 191" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The public is invited to attend free of charge. DeBolt, a professor of music at Kent State University, performs with the Kent Wind Quintet and the Kent Camerata. He has been a bassoonist for the Kansas City Philharmonic, Birmingham, Tulsa and Santa Fe Opera orchestras. His most recent recording is "David DeBolt, Bassoon Music of Twentieth Century America" (Crystal CD 347).

Wallace is music director of the Second Congregational Church in Newcastle, Maine, and staff accompanist for the Joffrey Ballet Workshop. A graduate of Southern Methodist University and a member of the Baldwin Roster of Artists and the American Guild of Organists, Wallace has composed music for piano and chamber ensembles and has commissioned a three-act ballet.
