The new residence is explicitly designed to encourage lively interaction. With a glass wall facing a plaza that also serves Rand Hall, the first-floor lounge will offer a bright and welcoming spot in which to gather and study. This model indicates how the new residence and surrounding buildings would appear from a point high over Mount David. The three-section residence is at center, with Libbey Forum and Dunn House to the left, Rand Hall to the immediate right, and the Chapel above and to the right. The new housing is sited at the corner of College Street and Mountain Avenue This view from a northern perspective shows the size of the residence relative to the College Chapel and Mount David. Approximating the view from Libbey Forum, this image shows the residence director's quarters (center, with columned "porch"), the two "flankers" (in red) and the bridges connecting the three sections. This image suggests the scale of the new residence relative to the current Rand Hall, at left. The first floor plan. (All renderings by SBRA Architects) |
