In March, 2006, Bates unveiled the architectural renderings and floor plans for the landmark dining Commons project, executed by architect Sasaki Associates.

For more information about any aspect of the new dining Commons project at Bates, please contact Vice President for College Advancement Victoria M. Devlin, Bates College, 2 Andrews Road Lewiston ME, 207-786-6247.

Executed by project architect Sasaki Associates, the following images represent the architectural footprint, artistic renderings and floor plans for the new dining Commons at Bates College. The following images are also viewable in a PDF brochure (1.2 MB).

The new Dining Commons will be sited between Alumni Gym and Garcelon Field, bording Central Avenue.

To maintain architectural integrity, building materials for the 60,000 square-foot structure will include brick, granite, slate, copper and glass.

The vaulted Fireplace Lounge will provide a much-needed gathering space for students from early morning to late at night.

The Main Dining Area will provide an open and welcoming space for students to eat meals together.

The first floor layout shows distinctive features: the Fireplace Lounge, at upper left, where students enter; the extended-hours Market off the lobby at top; and the extensive servery, at center, reflecting the marketplace model of food service in the new Commons.

The second floor layout shows the Mezzanine Dining Area for 200 students overlooking the main dining area. Also seen are the several Meeting Rooms, including one, Room E, which will be more formally appointed than the other meeting rooms and will be reserved for significant meeting and dining needs of the College.
