The Bates Seminar Series on Entrepreneurship will provide students with the opportunity to examine the experiences that entrepreneurs undergo conceiving, launching, and operating a new venture. In short, how entrepreneurship can open minds to opportunities, options, and the larger expectations and benefits implicit in a new idea.
This integrated set of lectures and presentations cover the entrepreneurial process, its history and manifestations from conception to implementation of a new venture. It will also:
- Expose students and community members to the unique ways that the fundamental characteristics of a liberal arts education can be applied and expressed in a broad variety of new and exciting ventures.
- Introduce students to the array of expressions of the entrepreneurial spirit and their intellectual links to the liberal arts.
- Explore the entrepreneurial mind, the development of ideas and opportunities, the assessment of risk, and the integration of entrepreneurial activities into the larger fabric of a community.
- And finally, will provide the aspiring entrepreneur with a conceptual and practical framework for understanding the essential nature of starting and sustaining a new venture.
Through lectures and discussions with researchers, practitioners and experts in the field - and readings, case studies, and video reviews as suggested by presenters. Attendees will come away equipped with a context for exploring issues of entrepreneurship and management and their implications.
