Students apply to medical and other health profession schools through an application service. This service allows applicants to complete one application for multiple schools. In this initial application, students are required to submit a personal statement or essay:
You can and should note any great achievement. If you're having trouble with your essay, or if you just want an objective opinion, ask a member of the Medical Studies Committee or the OCS at (207) 786-6232 for help. Medical schools vary considerably in such characteristics as size of student body, size of faculty, number and type of patients with whom medical students will have contact, general philosophy of education, geographical location, sources of financial support and opportunities for special activities such as research. These are all important aspects to consider when applying to a medical school. Students generally apply to a range of schools, including those in their home state. You should be sure to consult the AAMC publication called MEDICAL SCHOOL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS (MSAR) when selecting the schools to which you will apply. |
