Interviews

These are incredibly important and most are by invitation only. Almost everyone who is granted an interview has passed the first screening.

The interview, therefore, is important in determining acceptance. You must be able to discuss your motivations for becoming a physician, what you're planning to do with your life, and your personal qualities (good and bad). It is difficult to overemphasize the importance of preparing for the interview. Do not go unprepared.

Interview Tips:

Read the school literature carefully.

Arrive early, locate the designated room, browse, and read bulletin boards and campus publications.

Don’t try to guess what reply will please your questioner. Be yourself. Be honest. Be sincere. Be polite.

When preparing, read interview reports from students across the country who have interviewed at that particular school.  Consult http://www.interviewfeedback.com/.

Review the brochure "31 Questions I Wish I had Asked," which is available at the OCS.

Speak with Bates Alumni currently enrolled in medical school.

You can arrange several mock interviews through the OCS; also, please read the frequently asked interview questions.
