Individual medical schools in the U.S. offer a range of academic support programs, summer enrichment programs, institutes, workshops and pre-matriculation programs to assist high school and college students from under-represented groups prepare for medical school. Summer programs assist students with academic preparation, refine research skills, acquire clinical observation time, prepare for the MCAT, and generally navigate the admissions process. Students may wish to consult the annual publication called the Minority Student Opportunities in the United States Medical Schools. Washington, DC: AAMC or contact the individual medical schools directly. Most if not all medical schools have minority admissions offices that seek out qualified students, help them navigate the admissions process, and provide assistance to students during medical school. Med schools often identify qualified candidates through the Medical Minority Applicant Registry (Med-MAR).
