Pre-Law Information and Resource Guide
Counting Down the Years . . .

Hollywood often builds story lines and characters around lawyers and the law.  They tend to depict most lawyers as either high powered wheeler-dealer types with a corner office, seasoned orators equipped with the perfect closing statement and a no-lose record, or as the big hearted public defender struggling to save the world for little or no pay.

While these character types exist in the real world, it is not the norm.  Careers in law are rewarding and can be exciting, but often come with an extensive debt to income ratio and very long hours.

This resource guide was designed to walk Bates students and alumni through the realities of achieving a law degree.  You will be able to gain insights from alumni, learn the ins and outs of the application process, and find the resources you need to decide if this is the right career path for you.

If you have any questions on pursuing a legal career, please read through this guide and call the Office of Career Services at (207) 786-6232 to set up an appointment with Nancy Gibson
