Windows Vista: Connecting to the Bates Network (wired and wireless)

Bates College supports the following versions of Microsoft Vista:

Home Premium
Business
Enterprise
Ultimate

Support extends only  to getting Vista computers configured and connected to the Bates network. The following instructions will only work on the Bates Campus.

Connect to the Bates network via Ethernet (wired) or wirelessly

Open Internet Explorer and attempt to go to your homepage.

You may get a message saying "There is a problem with this website's security certificate". Click Continue to this website (not recommended).


Go to Tools > Internet Options > and click on the Advanced tab
  • Scroll towards the bottom of the list and uncheck "Check for server certificate revocation".
  • Click Ok and quit Internet Explorer.

At the Bates SNAP Authentication page, enter your Bates username and password and click Continue.
  • Click Download Clean Access Agent
  • A file should appear on your desktop called CCAAgent_Setup. Double click on this file and choose Run
  • A prompt warning "An unidentified program wants to access to your computer" may appear. Select Allow
  • The Clean Access Agent - InstallShield Wizard window will appear, Click Next
  • Click Next again
  • Click Install
  • Click Finish

Note: After the installation is done, you may delete the "CCAAgent_Setup" file on your desktop.

The Cisco Clean Access login window will appear. This window will only show up if your computer attempts to connect to the Bates network

Enter your Bates Username and Password.

Click Login

CCAA Login

A prompt saying "This page requires a secure connection which includes server authentication" should appear.
Click Yes.

If CCAA gives you "Temporary access" message, your computer may not be passing all of the requirements to get onto the Bates network. Check to see if the error message appears on the Troubleshooting CCAA Helpsheet. If you still can't connect, please contact the Bates Helpdesk Services.
NOTE: Windows SP 1 (Service Pack 1) for Vista is now required for windows updates to pass CCAA.
