These instructions are for beginning steps for wireless connection to the network. If you have already been through this process, and have temporary access please follow the links to instructions on Troubleshooting CCAA (Windows) for updates to windows and anti-virus programs .

Before you begin the network registration process, please be sure your Windows computer meets the Requirements for Registering to the Network. Wireless network cards may be purchased at Computer Sales & Service. 110 Russell St. 

NOTE: The number of computers accessing the network via wireless at the same time can affect the speed of the connection.

Open a Network Connection:

  • Click Start Button > All Programs > Connect to > Wireless Network Connection
For Bates Wireless Network Connection Setup:

The Wireless Network Connection Window appears differently in XP Service Pack 1 and XP Service Pack 2. You will have to update your windows to SP2 in order to fully connect to the network. Follow the below steps that applies to your computer [Windows XP with Service Pack 2]:

  • From the Wireless Network Connection Window, make sure that Bates is listed and highlighted under Choose a wireless network
  • Click Connect
  • A Wireless Network Connection dialogue box will temporarily appear, instructing you to "Please wait while Windows connects. . . ."
  • When connected, the status of your Bates network will change under Choose a wireless network.

NOTE: If you are not fully connected to the Bates network, check that you are connected to a Bates access point, not just "anything available" under Advanced above.

Open a Browser:
Open a browser and enter a URL in the address field if one isn't automatically supplied by your browser's settings.

At the Security Alert, select Yes. You'll be automatically redirected to the network authentication page.



Join the Bates Network:

Your browser will display the Bates SNAP Authentication page.

Here you must supply your current Bates Username and Password. Then click Install Certificate.

Follow the Certification import wizard, clicking Next.

Click Open to begin the installation process for the certificate.


Install the Certificate:

The first time you attempt to join the Bates Network, you will be prompted to install Clean Access Agent, a software application that allows ILS to ensure all computers joining the network are properly configured for virus protection.

This icon of the certificate will appear on the desktop after successfull installation.





Connect to Server:

If prompted by a Security Alert window, accept the redirection to the server and click Run.



Download the Certificate:

At the File Download window, click Run.


Install Clean Access Agent:
  • At the Clean Access Agent Setup window, select Next.
  • When prompted, accept the "Destination Location" and click Next.
  • Click Install at the Clean Access Agent Setup window.
  • After the installation is complete, you may be prompted to exit the Setup Wizard. Click Finish to do so.




Joining the Network: Limited Access

Before you join the Network, the Clean Access Manager will determine if you computer meets security and virus requirements. Computers that don't meet these requirements will be granted temporary access to complete the required steps. Click the Continue button for instructions.

  • Windows Update:
    You may be instructed to Update your version of Windows. If so, we've prepared a Windows Update Helpsheet.
  • Anti-Virus Protection:
    You may be instructed to install Anti-Virus Protection software (Nortons, McAfee, or Sophos are acceptable, and CCAA does give 45 minutes of temporary access to their websites in order to update the latest virus definition files in order to allow full network access). Joining the Network: Full Access

After meeting all the requirements for joining the Network, Clean Access Manager will grant you full access to the network.

Click OK.

You will need to login to the network each time you access the internet or network resources. NOTE: The number of computers accessing the network via wireless at the same time can affect the speed of the connection.
