Dial-in Networking: Windows XP Settings

Access the Bates Network from off-campus by configuring your computer to dial in through a modem connection.
A. New Connection Wizard settings:

1. Click on the Start button
2. Select All Programs
3. Select Accessories
4. Select Communications
5. Click on New Connection Wizard
6. At the Welcome to the New Connection Wizard, to continue, click on Next

B. Setting up the PPP connection:

1. Select Connect to the network at my workplace (A)
2. Click on Next
3. Select Dial Up connection (A, 2nd image)
4. Click on Next

C. Configure the dialing settings:

1. Type a name for this connection, type in: Bates PPP
2. Click on Next
3. Phone number to enter: 376-3310
4. Click on Next
5. Select Anyone's use
6. Click on Next
7. Check Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop
8. Click on Finish

D. Connect to Bates PPP: 

1. Double click the Bates PPP icon on the desktop
2. Type in your Bates username (A)
3. Type in your Bates password (B)
4. Click on Dial

NOTE: to change the phone number to the new one, click on the ppp connection icon and click in dial and type in the new one and test it by clicking dial.
To disconnect, double click the Dial Up icon in the system tray, and click the Disconnect button.
