Steps to installing (or updating) and configuring Mozilla's Firefox browser for use at Bates:
1. Download and Install the Application
2. Import the Bates College Certificate Authority

1. Download and Install Firefox
- Download the correct/latest version of Firefox for your operating system http://www.mozilla.com
- Save the file to your Desktop and once the download and extraction process is complete, double click the installer icon to run the program (accompanying screen shots refer to a Windows XP installation).

After the installer file has been uncompressed, select Next from the Firefox Setup dialog box.
- Accept the license agreement and select Next
- At the Setup Type dialogue box, accept the Standard setup, which is the default installation type, and click Next
- Accept the default Location, and click Next to complete the installation

When installation is completed,
- Uncheck, Use Firefox Start as my Home Page (if upgrading, current homepage will be imported)
- Leave checked, Launch Mozilla Firefox..
- Select Finish from the Install Complete dialogue box. Firefox will now start for the first time and allow you to import details from your old browser(s)

Firefox's Import Wizard will detect your system's browsers. To import the settings and data from Netscape 7, for ex., select the radio button labeled Netscape 6, 7 or Mozilla1.x
- Click Next

You will be prompted when the import process has been completed.
Click Finish

2. Installing Bates College Certificate Authority
- Open Firefox and go to:
- http://abacus.bates.edu/ils/offices/web/crypto
- Under the Certificates heading: Click Bates College Certificate Authority (CA)

On the Downloading Certificate dialog, click to check each of the boxes:
- Trust this CA to identify web sites
- Trust this CA to identify email users
- Trust this CA to identify software developers
Click OK to finish downloading.
You are now ready to use Firefox.
