This application is for uploading and obtaining files via secure file tranfer protocol for Macintosh computers running OS 10.3.9 or higher.
Installation:
To download Fetch 5.2 from Software on Denmark or download Fetch 5.3 free from the web (click on download Fetch 5.3):
- Under the Go menu, connect to Server
- Type in smb://Denmark, Click connect
- Login to BCIS, with Bates username and network password, Click ok
- Use pulldown menu to select Software, Click ok
- Software volume will appear on the desktop, click to open
- Click to expand Macintosh menu,
- Click to expand FTP Clients folder
- Click to open Fetch 5 folder
- [NOTE: Fetch 4 is also available for earlier OS than 10.3.9]
The Bates readme file contains the serial nos. for the versions available. - Click on fetch_5.2.dmg
- Click and Drag the Fetch icon to the Applications Folder
- Find Fetch in the list of Applications, click to run
Configuring Fetch:
- Open Fetch from Applications folder
- The first time Fetch opens it will ask for name and the Serial no., Enter the name and serial number from the Denmark readme file.
- Enter Hostname: abacus.bates.edu [other hosts can be entered if files are to be "got" from a remote host]
- Username: Bates username [or username for other host]
- Connect using: SFTP
- Password: Bates network password [or password for other host]
- Click Connect
- Fetch should then display the directories and files on that account that can be selected for "putting" on the host site.
Tips:
- Back arrow allows you to go up directories.
- Clicking on Path will show the directory structure from where the files you are working on came.
- Recent allows you to see the most recent SFTP connections made.
- Get and Put are the action buttons for the actual transfer of the files to the host server.
- Edit brings up BBedit (or another Mac default text editor program)
- Get info gives the file size etc. as well as the option to view who has permissions and what kind.
- Web View allows a preview of the web page or file being uploaded or obtained.
