The Core FTP Lite software for Windows* that is intended to be used to securely transfer files from local machines to the server abacus.bates.edu. Directory permissions need to be handled separately. Contact Help Desk Services, x8222 or e-mail: helpdesk@bates.edu to request permissions to a particular Bates web site, or if you have questions or concerns.

Download program from the following website: http://www.coreftp.com/download.html (free version is listed first) or download from Software on Information & Library Services Denmark\Windows\FTP Clients\

Open Core Lite. The initial site setup window appears.
NOTE: If you want to add another new site, click Site, choose Site Manager, click New Site

Enter the name for the site, host = abacus.bates.edu  for example, and username

Be sure to Check SSH/SFTP.

Click Connect

Enter network password
CAUTION: It is never a good idea to save a network password in any application

The path on the right side to connect to Paris, for example, should be:
/usr/netapp/username

The path on the left side should be to locate the file to be transferred on the local machine (or, in the opposite direction, to pull down from the server to be edited on the local machine)

Use the arrow next to the file path to either ''put'' or ''get'' the file to its destination.

Transfer of file should be indicated in the log box below, with the number of bytes successfully transferred

Be sure to click File, and then Exit to leave the connection when the transfer is complete.
TIP: Verify that the file has reached its destination and can be opened or viewed. Setting permissions for a new web file may be needed. Please consult: http://www.bates.edu/ils/web/publishing/permissions.html for details.

*Some windows users have found that Core Lite has not done successful transfers, where WinSCP (and some other open source SFTP programs) have worked to move or transfer the file(s). To download, double click on the winscp405setup.exe file, and choose the typical defaults. The configuration should be the same as for Core for host, etc with the exception that instead of clicking on arrows to move files, highlight the file(s) to be moved and click F6 move button at bottom of screen.
