Women's cross country beats ranked teams at Jumbo Invitational

Bates (46 points) placed behind Bowdoin (27) but ahead of Tufts (63) and Wellesley (100), two teams currently ranked among the top 10 in New England. Mitton covered the 6-kilometer course in 23:18.88 for third place out of 53 runners. Senior Aviva Goldstein (Manchester, N.H.) was next for Bates in sixth place (23:30.55), followed by first-year Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.), running in her first cross country race, who was 10th in 24:01.82. Finishing out the top seven for the Bobcats were junior Allie Goldstein (Needham, Mass.), who came in 11th in 24:08.31; sophomore Abby Samuelson (Freeport, Maine), who was 16th in 24:25.95; first-year Megan McClelland (Keene Valley, N.Y.), who was 17th in 24:27.96; and sophomore Esther Kendall (Ridgeway, Ontario), who was 18th in 24:31.93. The Bates women will be at the Open New England Championships in Boston on Oct. 6. |
