November 30, 2007

Q: The mixed bean stew at Tues. night's vegan station was yummy!! Is it a a new recipe? If it is, please make more of it because I like beans and I like fiber. Thanks!
A: Thanks for you kind words.

Q: If Bates does build a greenhouse I hope that there will be a wide variety of fruits and vegetables from the basics-  such as peaches, pears, and apples

for exmple to exotics such as papaya and mangos and avacados simalarily for the vegetable groupings. Did you know that regularly consuming a variety of fruit

and vegetables regurally can eliminate acne and is all around healthful so a wider variety is definetly in demand!
A: I think that we all that regular consumption of foot leads to better health and I too hope that when Bates gets a green house we will be able to provide a
wider range of season items. Thanks for writing

Q: Is it possible to have some whey protein somewhere in our Bates diet? I'm not sure how you would include it and all, but i've heard it's really healthy..
A: Let me look into this. Thanks for writing

Q: Can we have a little station for making smoothies with just a blender? It would be great if we could throw in some fruit, bananas and yoghurt and make a healthy, filling drink. If it's not possible to have it on a daily basis, could we have like a 'Make Your Own Smoothie' once in a while like we have a 'Make your own Sundae' or can we have a 'Name Your Own Smoothie' like we have a 'Name Your Own Omelette'? I think it would be a great and extremely healthy addition to the Bates menu! :) Thanks!
A: This is not possible on a daily basis, but could be added to the Adventure in Dining List. Thanks for writing

Q: Yesterday's wheat roll was awesome! Can we have them more often? Thank you!
A: Thanks, glad you enjoyed them. Thanks for writing

Q: Hi,I am a parent and I have a question and a concern about the dining hours. I know that there are sports events that are sometimes held late such as a swimming  meet on Wed. at 6 for example and Men's basketball game is Sat at 7 for other students. I know at least for swimmers they can't eat a big meal before they swim. Therefore it would be so helpful if the cafeteria was opened at later hours.
A: The cafeteria is presently open till 8:00p and once we move will be open till 8:30p. In both the cases you  use as illustration below, the Coach make
arrangements for his/her athletes to eat either eat early- in the case of basketball- or eat in the Den- in the case of swimming. Thanks for writing

Q: Yesterday's breakfast fruit dip was great! Please serve it more often. I'm also really pleased to see fresh pineapple lately, but could we try grapes, strawberries, or oranges sometime? thanks
A: Thanks , glad you enjoyed the dip. We do have grapes , but at this time Strawberries are not in season. Thanks for writing

Q: I have eaten Jerusalem artichoke pasta and think is wonderful. It would be great if it could be a regular addition to the pasta offerings.
A: At this time we will not be offering Jerusalem artichoke pasta. Thanks for writing

Q: Do you now  know what hours the new Commons cafe will be opened?
A: The Emporium will be open till 1:00a Sunday through Thursday and 2:00am on Friday and Saturday. Thanks for writing

Q: Can we please have some more cut fruit in the salad bar? We always have melon and it's getting so monotonous. Can we do pineapple or pears or grapes or oranges please?
A: Can do.

Q: I miss cheesecake! Can we please have cheesecake again soon? By the way, your strawberry sauce that you use for the cheesecake and for the angel food cake etc is to die for!
A: Can do. Thanks for writing

Q: Harvest Dinner was really nice! Thank you so much. Being an international student, it was my first taste of thanksgiving and I loved it. Could we have hot apple cider next time too? Or could we actually have hot apple cider in Commons now that it's getting pretty cold outside anyway? The Sweet Potato Casserole was delicious! *smack smack* I wish there were leftovers for lunch today!
A: Thanks for you kind words. We buy our cider locally and presently there is none to be had. The cider season was a short one this year.

Q: PLEASE BRING BACK THE HERB AND CHEESE SPREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A: At present we can not get this item. We are working on it though. Thanks for writing

Q: Can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE have mac and cheese more often? Everyday I look at the menu in hopes it will be there... This may be a sad existence, but it is just SO good that I am not afraid to admit it.
A: We can do that. Thanks for writing

Q: Could we get labels for the bagels specifically for the whole wheat ones.  I sometimes grab the unhealthy stuff confusing it for the good stuff.
A: Can do. Thanks for writing.

Q: The frozen yogurt machine has been empty at dinner time the last few nights at about 7:30.
A: Thanks for letting me know

Q: PLEASE BRING BACK THE HERB AND CHEESE SPREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A: At present we can not get this item. We are working on it though.

Q: Would it be possible to have cold cuts of chicken in the salad bar ? We have beef, turkey, ham but never any chicken ....It would be nice to have honey chicken if possible. thanks
A: Can do. Thanks for writing

Q: Can we please have some other fruit in the salad bar , anything other than the usual melon, apples and bananas..it always a pleasant change to see strawberries, pineapples, grapes.Thank you !!!!!!
A: We put different fruit out when they are in season. Thanks for writing

Q: Are the darker spelt bagels whole grain? Or are all the bagels whole grain? And it seems that the darker bagels are usually gone when I have breakfast in the morning; I think more should be kept on hand. thanks
A: The darker bagels are whole grain but are not spelt. The confusion is that we got some plain spelt bagels in recently which were darker in cooler- they were trying a different cooking process-but these where not whole wheat as whole wheat bagels can not be spelt. Hope this clarifies things.

A: It is correct that you did not see a response because I do not accept vendor solicitations over the napkin board.

Q: The batch of roast beef served around 6pm on the pizza-station side on Wednesday, nov 7th was actually tender, juicy and delectable! Good job, hopefully we can keep it this way?
A: Thanks for noticing.

Q: Can we have m&m's as a topping at the soft-serve ice cream machine more often?  They are the best.
A: Can do. Thanks for writing

Q: i see tomorrow is crispitos along with stuffed sole. like i wrote on an actual napkin in commons, TOO MANY GOOD THINGS IN ONE MEAL IS BAD. Save the stuffed sole for another day so i can make a meal out of that as well. thanks
A: Yes it is. Life is all about choices is it not. Thanks for writing

November 5, 2007

Q: We used to have multigrain pancakes and bran pancakes on rotation...maybe I've missed it a couple of times, but I only remember having multigrain pancakes just once this semester. Can we have it more often please? Thanks!
A: You missed them. Thanks for writing

Q: Two experiences I had recently made me want to drop you a quick note on the Napkin Board. Firstly, Halloween was fantastic - events like that, the Harvest Dinner, and Wednesday night Adventures in Dining are very much an integral part of my experience at Bates, and I really appreciate all of the work that goes into making them so special. Thank you! Also, I was talking with a Bates alum the other day who mentioned that, "when I was at Bates, all of the food was cooked in-house." I was happy to report that Bates still uses it's own dining services, and that they are leaps and bounds better than the outsourced cafeterias at so many schools I've visited. Thanks for all you do.
A: Thanks so very much for you kind comments. I will pass them on.

Q: I was wondering if you knew whether or not there would be a waffle maker in the new commons. Thank you very much for your hard work!
A: Yes there will be

November 2, 2007

Q: The turkey dinner on thursday night November 1st, 2007 was delicious, it was like the deli type turkey, if possible, can  you make all turkey dinners like that, and all with mashed potatoes and stuffing...I love stuffing..Thanks
A: Glad you liked it, but this is the turkey we always use. Perhaps your taste buds were just extra excited last night. Thanks for writing
