David R. George, Jr. is Lecturer in Spanish in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures, Bates College. He has published papers on various aspects of historical fiction, travel writing, and early-cinema of Spain’s Restoration Period (1876-1931) in journals and edited volumes, including Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies, Studies in Hispanic Cinemas and Anales Galdosianos. He is also co-editor of the volume Historias de la pequeña pantalla. Representaciones históricas en la televisión de la España democrática (Iberoamericana 2009), and author of annotated edition of Leopoldo Alas's Doña Berta (Cervantes & Co. 2007). He is currently working on a book-project titled A Dual and Contradictory Spirit: Vicente Blasco Ibañez and Taishō Japan, which explores Spain’s post-imperial ties to East Asia in the 1920s.
