December 19, 2007

Q: I am currently abroad, and my host mother serves me delicious food every day, and I am thankful for that.  But lately I find myself really missing commons, and I just wanted to thank you for providing us with lots of choices, yummy food, and a really nice place to hang out every day.  I'm looking forward to returning to commons in January!
A: Thanks for your kind words. Have a safe trip back.

Q: Today's whole wheat bagel was SO soft and amazing, are they always like that?
A: We are working on it..

Q: Is it possible to post the Adventures in Dining options for the Wed. online dinner menu? Thanks.
A: Will do.

Q: Yesterday, The chicken salad with grapes, onions and yogurt kept at the deli bar was absolutely delicious. Can we please have it more often ??? thanks
A: Yes it will be served more often.

Q: Everyone loves bacon. let's have it at lunch or dinner sometime!
A: We are having it for breakfast this AM....ENJOY

Q: Every day, I go to Commons. I get some salad, soup and beverages, pick a table in the quiet room, and enjoy my meal alone.  Its my third year at bates, and someday, I hope to find love in commons.
A: This is so very sad......

Q: Falafel would be delicious!
A: Thanks

Q: Does Commons still do biscuits and gravy? I hope so, but I worry because I have not seen them for a loooong time.
A: We will make sure they appear again.

Q: I really love Commons, because you guys are great and the food's awesome, but I think there are three things that would really make Commons perfect for me. Firstly, I love hot cereals, but oatmeal is getting really monotonous, and I try to avoid non-whole grain foods like cream of wheat. Could Commons expand its hot cereal collections to include Penobscot porridge, wheatena, cornmeal mush, or hot muesli? Or if it's impossible to part with the oatmeal, could we have oatmeal variations like oat bran or Scottish oatmeal? Secondly, I really love to put molasses on most breakfast foods, like oatmeal, pancakes, and french toast. Could we have some molasses available in Commons? And finally, I'm a vegetarian, but I miss the taste of chicken sometimes. Could we have imitation chicken products in the vegan cooler, ones that could be used to make sandwiches? If Commons could do one or all of these things, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.
A: Here you go...

1) We will take a look at the hot cereal and see if we can change the cycle
2) Molasses should be no problem
3) We have looked at many "faux chicken" products and have not found one
which we feel is of a good quality, but we will continue to look.

Q: If a particular sauce is undesirable but the entree is desirable, is it ok to ask the servers for the entree without the sauce?
A: Most certainly. Thanks for writing

Q: I am wondering why its so cold in the back room sometimes?
A: Because the heating system in the building is not very good.

Q: Please guys, the new organic bagels are terrible. I know you still offer some of the old kind, but can you please bring back the regular, plain, non-organic ones. The newer ones don't even taste like bagels.
A: We have been having trouble getting the "old Kind" of bagel as the manufacturer is not longer making them. We have scored another purveyor and when you return in January we will be offering "regular" in Plain, Blueberry, and Cinnamon, Spelt everything and vegan organic whole wheat.

Q: Instead of just having sweet potato wedges, could we please have smashed or mashed sweet potato sometimes? They wouldn't be as dry and they would be easier to melt butter on. And I simply just love having them smashed. Thanks.
A: Can do.

Q: Why is the vegan bar only offered at night? It provides options not only for vegans but expands options for other vegetarians and even non vegetarians.I have asked this ques. on this board before but a response has been yet to be given. However, thanks for the times that vegan options are offered.
A: You are right on all counts and one we move to the new facility we will be offering vegan meals at both lunch and dinner.

December 5, 2007

Q: Will the new dining hall have different bagels?  I do not like the current ones.
A: We are trying different combinations of bagels and are in fact changing the standard ones to a new brand in the next couple of weeks. So stay posted. Thanks for writing

Q: Please please please fix the menu section.  It makes us students sad when we can't find out ahead of time if food is going to be awesome or simply good.
A: I checked the menu this am and you are correct that the marche is incorrect. We will make the corrections. Thanks for bring this to my attention.

Q: Why is the online menu always wrong this year?  Every other week its not updated.  It's never been like this in the past.
A: A students updates the menu on a weekly basis and has had some trouble connecting. We have been working diligently to correct this situation. Thanks for writing

December 4, 2007

Q: Please please please separate the tables in the back room (the long skinny one with the low ceiling)!! It is impossible to get in and out when the tables are that long.
A: We can look at doing this, but many students like the long tables. Thanks for writing

Q: Can there still be chocolate milk after 6:30 at dinner?  I get out of practice and would like nothing more than chocolate milk, but there is almost never any left.  Thanks.
A: We will increase our order. Thanks for bring this to my attention.
