WASHINGTON, DC Note: Please note new location for Saturday! Here's the latest on Saturday's cleanup for the DC area: scouts went out twice this week in D.C. and found that the sites we had chosen were picked clean! Here is the new site: It's near the intersection of Beach Drive and Connecticut Ave. just north of the Beltway exit in Maryland. From the Beltway exit, go north toward Kensington and turn left on Beach Drive. Park in the first area on the right. There is parking for about 10-20 cars. We will have a table with a Bates banner and signs. The cleanup sites are on both sides of the Creek around Conn. Ave., a high-visibility site that has lots of trash. It's quite muddy after this week's rainfall, so people should wear hiking boots. Also, the poison ivy is out--wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts if you are allergic. We will supply bags and gloves, as well as some tools for the cleanup, and we should be able to launch a canoe to pick up stuff in the creek. For more details see the map at: http://www.riverexplorer.com/Bates_FORCE_cleanup.html The Friends of Rock Creek's Environment works to promote a healthy and sustainable Rock Creek Watershed through conservation, education and restoration.
