Catholic took its first lead at 12-11 and built it to 34-24 with 2:43 left in the first period. But Bates held Catholic scoreless over the ensuing 7 minutes and 30 seconds, extending into the second half, while scoring 22 unanswered points in the process for a 46-36 lead. The Cardinals clawed back to within three at 50-47 and kept the Bobcats within reach the rest of the way but couldn't retake the lead. Other major contributors for Bates included sophomore Brian Ellis (Braintree, Mass.) with eight points and five rebounds, sophomore Jimmy O'Keefe (Lexington, Mass.) with five points and a team-high six rebounds, and sophomore Chris Wilson (Brewer, Maine) with a tema-high five assists to go with five rebounds.
