Wholey wins NABC All-Northeast District honors
March 20,
2008
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Bates College senior guard Bryan Wholey (Marshfield, Mass.) has been named Division III All-Northeast District Second Team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, the NABC announced on Thursday. It is the third postseason honor for Wholey, who was voted First Team All-NESCAC earlier this month as well as Division III All-Northeast District Second Team by D3hoops.com just yesterday. Only 11 players were named All-Northeast District, four of them from NESCAC schools: Wholey was joined by District Player of the Year Andrew Olson of Amherst, Fletcher Walters of Amherst and Charles Stone of Connecticut College as NESCAC honorees. Wholey was a co-captain for the Bobcats, who finished 17-8 and 6-3 in NESCAC play, despite the most youthful roster in the conference. The 6-foot-3, all-purpose guard led the Bobcats in scoring with a career-high 15.8 points per game, ranking third in the conference. In NESCAC contests he averaged a league-best 19.0 points. Wholey was also first in the league in steals, averaging an even 2.0 per game, eighth in assists (3.9 apg) and 10th in free-throw percentage (.790), and was third on the Bobcats in rebounding (4.8 rpg). Wholey finished his career in Lewiston ninth on Bates' all-time scoring list with 1,246 points. View a PDF of the 2008 NABC Division III All-District Teams news release. |
