Men's tennis wins at Southern Maine, 9-0
March 20,
2008
Bates, ranked seventh in this week's Northeast Region rankings, swept the three doubles matches prior to taking all six singles contests. The Bobcats improve to 7-2 on the season. The match was the spring season opener for the Huskies. The best match of the day was at No. 1 singles, where Bates sophomore Amrit Rupasinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) and USM sophomore Josh Warren (Hermon, Maine) split sets, each winning 6-3, before Rupasinghe won a super tiebreaker, 10-7, to take the match. Rupasinghe also combined with junior Ben Stein (Pelham, N.Y.) for an 8-4 win at first doubles over Warren and junior Derek Stevenson (Windham, Maine). Bates is off until April 3 when it travels to in-state rival Bowdoin College. Bates 9, Southern Maine 0 Doubles |
