Wholey, Ellis take home All-State honors from MMBCWA

The head coaches from the thirteen college programs in the State of Maine voted for the MMBCWA's Player, Rookie and Coach of the Year awards as well as the All-State and Rookie Teams. It is the fourth postseason honor for Wholey (Marshfield, Mass.), who previously was named NESCAC First Team All-Conference, NABC Division III All-Northeast District Second Team, and D3hoops.com All-Northeast Region Second Team. The co-captain led the Bobcats in scoring with a career-high 15.8 points per game, ranking third in the conference. In NESCAC contests he averaged a league-best 19.0 points. Wholey tied a career-high in points with 28 during an overtime win at Tufts on Jan. 26, earning him the NESCAC Player of the Week award. Wholey finished his time in Lewiston ninth on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,246 points. Wholey was also first in the league in steals, averaging an even 2.0 per game, eighth in assists (3.9 apg) and 10th in free-throw percentage (.790), and was third on the Bobcats in rebounding (4.8 rpg). It is the second postseason honor for Ellis (Braintree, Mass.), who previously was named NESCAC Rookie of the Year. Ellis was also twice named Rookie of the Week by the MMBCWA. The 6-5 swingman was second behind Wholey on the team in scoring, averaging 14.0 points per game, the sixth-highest average in the conference. He also led the Bobcats and was ninth in the NESCAC in field goal percentage (.551) and was second on the team in rebounding with 5.0 boards per game.
