Rowing competes for second straight day at Worcester

2008 WORCESTER, Mass. -- Competing for the second day in a row, the Bates College rowing teams had a number of strong performances Sunday in a regatta with host WPI, Wellesley, Skidmore, Simmons, URI and Holy Cross. The Bates women's varsity eight, currently ranked No. 5 in New England, covered the 2-kilometer course in 6:53.2, topping No. 14 Simmons (7:00.55), Skidmore and No. 15 Wellesley (7:17.54) in a four-boat race. The Bates men's varsity eight edged URI for second place, 6:14.17 to 6:15.54, while WPI took first place in 6:02.9. The Bates men's second varsity eight scored an impressive win with a time of 6:14.4 over WPI (6:14.83) and URI (6:43.62). Bates returns to Worcester on April 19 for a regatta with Trinity, WPI and the University of New Hampshire. On the following day Bates will host the CBB Presidents Cup on the Androscoggin River. |
