Women's lacrosse rolls to 20-5 win at Southern Maine
April 14,
2008
Dilworth was one of four Bates’ players to score at least three goals as the Bobcats rolled to their second consecutive win to even out their record to 5-5. The loss halts a two-game win streak for the Huskies who fall to 4-7 overall. After falling behind early to the Huskies in the opening minute of the first half, Bates rattled off five straight goals, including a pair from Dilworth, to take control of the game. Bates led Southern Maine 9-3 at the half and then outscored the Huskies 11-2 in the second stanza for the win. Senior co-captain Molly Wagner (Longmeadow, Mass.), sophomore midfielder Molly Radis (Peaks Island, Maine) and freshman midfielder Briana Gross (Barrington, R.I.) each fired in three goals, while Radis handed off a pair of assists. Sophomore midfielder Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) led the Bobcats with four assists to complement a pair of goals. Senior attack Justene Dorr led the Southern Maine attack with three goals, including both of the Huskies’ goals in the second half. Freshmen Kristy Kendrick and Mary Vaughan rounded out the scoring for the Huskies. USM senior goalkeeper Katie Quartuccio played well in the loss turning back 28 shots – just two shy of tying the Huskies’ single-game record and one off of her career high. Bates first-year goalkeeper Mara Krueger (St. Louis, Mo.) made eight saves in the win. Bates travels to Gordon College on Thursday (4 p.m.) for a non-league game. |
