Helping Hands

Participants will be working with a group from Helping Hands, a volunteer organization committed to providing items of comfort to those in need. Projects will have a "hand-made" flair. No experience is necessary. A willingness to pitch in where needed is all that we ask. If you can knit, crochet, sew, or are willing to use a pair of scissors, we'd love to have you join us! All materials will be provided. If you would like to sew and prefer to use your own machine, feel free to bring it with you.

Helping Hands makes and distribute a wide variety of items to local shelters, hospitals and service agencies and organizations. Our group will be working on "under the bridge" blankets for those who actually live under bridges; fleece hats to accompany next season's children's winter coats secured by grants from Lands End and Timberland and given to the needy; cell phone pouches that hang on a cord around your neck for donated phones for abused women and senior citizens (when charged, these phones can dial 911 without needing a service proovider); "bonding babies" used in neonatel incubators as recovery aids for the sickest of babies; and, blankets/quilts that will be given to local fire and rescue providers to be used in family emergency situations and as shawls.
