The senior thesis is an opportunity to research a topic in depth and to develop the critical approach(es) necessary for a sustained analysis of the topic in the French language. Students are strongly encouraged to consider potential topics and consult with faculty about them before the beginning of the semester in which they complete the thesis. Majors are expected to finalize their intention to complete a thesis by September 15 for fall semester theses and by December 1 for winter semester theses. Exceptional students may be invited to write a two-semester Honors thesis by the Department. Theses should be presented according to the disciplinary guidelines in the MLA Style Manual and the format for presentation adopted by the College. Some examples of theses from the past include: * La Poésie symboliste en chanson: Verlaine, Debussy et Fauré * La Séparation de la mosque et de l'état: pour dévoiler la nouvelle laïcité française * Les lendemains des Mille et Une Nuits: La survivance de Shéhérazade chez Leïla Sebbar, Fatima Mernissi et Assia Djébar |
