Thursday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m. - Jazz at the Olin Arts Center: Raw Materials - Vijay Iyer, piano and Rudrush Mahanthappa, alto saxophone
Since 1996, alongside simultaneous vibrant solo careers, Vijay Iyer and Rudresh Mahanthappa have worked together constantly as a duo, performing their wildly inventive, collaborative music to widespread acclaim around the world. In 2006, Savoy Jazz released their first duo album, titled RAW MATERIALS. Time Out New York called it "their most striking collaboration yet. Both sons of immigrants from India, Iyer and Mahanthappa are at the forefront of a new generation of American jazz musicians who explore their cultural heritage through their music. From the frontiers of New York City’s creative landscape, they synthesize Asian, African, and European musical elements to create original music that is simultaneously state-of-the-art, timeless, and beyond category.

Friday, September 25 at 7:30 p.m.: Muse of Fire – David Katz’s critically acclaimed one man play about the art of conducting.
"unique depth and humor… tremendous verve… and
                palpable passion."

– Chicago Sun-Times
MUSE of FIRE is David Katz’s extraordinary one-man play about the art of conducting. No other work of theater so vividly conveys the power of great music to open hearts and touch the soul. It is an event at once gripping, humorous and ultimately deeply moving. MUSE of FIRE features beautifully recorded orchestral works by more than a dozen beloved composers exquisitely woven into the fabric of the story. It was the last play directed by Tony Award winning actor and acclaimed Broadway director, Charles Nelson Reilly. www.museoffiretheplay.org
