From academic service-learning projects to volunteer work with such organizations as Lots to Gardens and the Trinity Jubilee Center soup kitchen, Bates engages in relationships beyond campus that benefit all participants. Issues around food security, nutrition and food as a cultural expression are integral to a number of these initiatives.
