Field hockey falls to No. 1-ranked Polar Bears
September 17,
2008
McNamara got the Polar Bears on the board early, connecting on a shot off her own rebound to give Bowdoin the lead at 8:34. Several strong saves by Bates sophomore Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, Del.) kept the Bobcats in the game until late in the period, when a flurry of Bowdoin goals put the game out of reach. McEnroe (56 minutes, 15 saves) gave way to sophomore Helena Turner (Manchester, Mass.), who made a pair of saves in the final 14 minutes of the contest. Junior Samantha Rothkopf (Chicago, Ill.) got off two of the Bobcats' three shots against Bowdoin goalies Emileigh Mercer and Emily Neilson; sophomore Stephanie Cabot (Dover, Mass.) had the other. Bates will play at Amherst on Saturday at 11 a.m. in another NESCAC contest. |
