MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- Led by sophomore Devin Dilts, the Bates College men's cross country finished third out of eight teams Saturday at the Wesleyan Invitational, scoring 68 points to rank behind Wesleyan (43) and Connecticut College (45).

Dilts (Roscoe, Ill.) finished fifth overall on a rainy, muddy 8-kilometer course with a time of 27:13. First-year Sean Colligan (Goffstown, N.H.) came next, 11th overall in 27:42. Junior Doug Brecher (Waban, Mass.) finished 16th in 28:12, followed by senior Dillon Tung (South Pasadena, Calif.) in 17th at 28:13 and sophomore Tom Esponette (Auburn, Maine) in 21st at 28:28.

"Dillon and Tom had exceptional races," said head coach Al Fereshetian. Fereshetian also lauded the performances of first-year Ben Chebot (Newton, Mass.), seventh on the team in 28:42, sophomore Tristan Black-Ingersoll (Concord, N.H.) in 30:17 and senior Alex Stewart (Keene, N.H.) in 30:18.

Bates next competes at Open New Englands at Boston's Franklin Park on Oct. 11.
