Benisch wins for women's tennis at ITA Championships

Benisch (Huntington, N.Y.) defeated Alicia Cauteruccio of Connecticut College 6-3, 6-0 in the first round before falling to seeded player Carlissa King of Amherst, 6-1, 6-3. Elsewhere in the singles bracket, first-year Meg Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.) lost to Wellesley's Jacqueline Shen in her college debut, 6-0, 6-0. Representing Bates in doubles play were two newcomers to the team, first-year Erika Blauth (Hope, Maine) and Brooke Morse-Karzen (Wilmette, Ill.). Getting their first taste of college tennis, the duo fell in the first round to the second-seeded pair, Brittney Berckes and Natasha Brown of Amherst, by an 8-4 score. Bates will play host to Babson College on Thursday, Oct. 2, at 3:30 p.m. |
