Connecticut College nips men's soccer team, 1-0
October 4,
2008
Camels senior Matt Hula's (Litchfield, Conn.) strike inside the penalty area at 8:28 of the first half was the lone scoring output for either team. His fourth goal of the season was assisted by freshman Isaac Hancock (Gettysburg, Pa.). In the 35th minute of the first half, Bobcat sophomore midfielder Chris LaBrecque (Falmouth, Maine) appeared to score the game-tying goal, but Bates was ruled to be off-sides and the goal was disallowed. Both teams were provided with strong defensive efforts in a highly intense struggle, with only 18 combined shots on goal (Bates held a 10-8 advantage). Bobcat first-year goalkeeper Greg Watts (West Chester, Pa.) recorded 3 saves, while Camel senior goalie Ted Lane (Portland, Ore.) turned back 2 shots to earn the shutout. Bates (4-3 overall, 1-3 NESCAC) plays tomorrow at NESCAC in-state rival Bowdoin College at 12 p.m. The Camels improve to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in NESCAC competition. |
