Men's soccer shuts out visiting Southern Maine, 3-0
October 8,
2008
Chris Okano, Pat King and Patrick Jackson all scored for the Bobcats, who moved to 5-4 while the visiting Huskies dropped to 8-4-1. Okano (Los Angeles, Calif.) got the Bobcats on the scoreboard in the 28th minute by converting a cross from sophomore Tim Molnar (Rocky River, Ohio), who had embarked on a breakaway down the right sideline. King (Gorham, Maine) volleyed in senior Oliver Fadly's (Lexington, Mass.) corner kick in the 27th minute to make it 2-0. Bates got a third goal with 11:08 left in the game on a penalty kick by Jackson (Durham, N.H.), who struck the ball past Southern Maine goalkeeper Steve May (Brunswick, Maine) into the upper right corner to make it 3-0. Jackson leads the Bobcats with 5 goals. Three yellow cards in the game and 24 fouls underscored the physicality of the game. The host Bobcats took 12 shots to the Huskies' 11. First-year goalie Greg Watts (West Chester, Pa.) made five saves in earning the second shutout of his career. May made four saves for Southern Maine, which next plays host to UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday at 1 p.m. Bates will play at Trinity College on Saturday at 12 p.m. |
