Program Notes 2009
The regular season consists of a 14-game schedule, including nine games against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponents. The top eight teams in the regular season standings qualify for the NESCAC Championship, with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship. 2008 Recap The Bates field hockey team's 2008 season saw a return to the NESCAC Championships after a three year drought. The team rallied late in the season to make a postseason push beating conference rivals Connecticut College and Colby to secure the seventh seed in the tournament. The Bobcats lost in the quarterfinals to in-state rival Bowdoin who went on to win the DIII National Championship. "Each year the NESCAC seems to get stronger and stronger, but we closed the gap this season and made tremendous improvements," said head coach Wynn Hohlt. Among the season's highlights from the fall were the overtime victory over NESCAC rival Colby in the final game of the season to secure a spot in the NESCAC Championship. Also, sophomore goalkeeper Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, Del.)was selected First Team All-NESCAC while senior forward Rachel Greenwood (Williamstown, Mass.) was selected to the Second Team. Both McEnroe and Greenwood were selected to the Division III New England West All-Region Second Team by the NFHCA. "We are looking ahead to an even better year next year and hope to see you on the sidelines!" added Hohlt. |
