Men's squash splits matches at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The No. 11 ranked Bates College men's squash team defeated former coach John Illig and the 18th-ranked Middlebury Panthers 9-0 on Sunday at Williams College, before dropping an 8-1 decision to the No. 10 Williams Ephs.

Sophomore Patrick Williams (Boston, Mass.), senior Marc Taggart (Skippack, Pa.) and senior captain Chip Russell (West Hartford, Conn.), dominated their opponents 3-0 in the Middlebury match at positions 8, 9 and 6, respectively. The Bobcats then fell to the host Ephs 8-1. First-year Bobby Burns (Greenwich, Conn.) had the Bobcats' lone victory in a 5-game thriller.

Bates (3-3) next plays Vassar at Yale on Friday, followed by matches against Wesleyan and St. Lawrence at Wesleyan on Saturday. On Sunday the Bobcats will travel back to Yale to play Franklin & Marshall.
