BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates College women's indoor track and field team finished sixth for the second straight year at the New England Division III Indoor Championships, hosted by Bowdoin College.

The Bobcats scored 40 points, sixth best out of 24 scoring teams at the meet. MIT won with 134 points, followed by Williams (118), Tufts (108), Bowdoin (88), Springfield (77), Bates (40), Amherst (36), Middlebury (32) and Colby (23) to round out the top 10 teams.

Junior All-American Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan (Topsham, Maine) won both the shot put and the weight throw for the second straight year. Duncan recorded season bests in both events, with a top throw of 54-06.50 in the weight and a top shot put of 42-11.75 to improve her provisional standing for the NCAA Championships in both events. Her shot put was an indoor personal record.

Senior Izzy Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) was second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:00.42, scoring another 8 points for Bates.

Also scoring for the Bobcats were:

  • First-year Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.), who was fifth in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.81 seconds, the second-best time in Bates history;
  • Sophomore Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.), who was sixth in the 400 with a personal record time of 1:00.67, No. 9 on Bates' all-time performance list;
  • Senior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.), who was seventh in the triple jump at 35-07.75;
  • Sophomore Sara Ellen Godek (Gilford, N.H.), who was eighth in the weight throw at 44-06.25. Godek also submitted a shot put of 36-05.75, which put her at No. 5 on Bates' all-time list;
  • The 4x400 relay team of Lindauer, Tobin, Marino and Alexander, which placed seventh in a time of 4:08.79, the eighth-best time in school history.

Bates next competes at Open New Englands next Friday and Saturday at Boston University.
