Morse-Karzen shines for women's tennis at MIT

Leslie Hansen and Anastasia Vishnevetsky collaborated for an 8-1 win over Bates senior Caryn Benisch (Huntington, N.Y.) and junior Alex Piacquad (Yardley, Pa.) in the top doubles spot. The Engineers extended their lead when Anisa McCree and Melissa Diskin defeated sophomore Jean Gulliver (Falmouth, Maine) and first-year Meg Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.), 8-2, in the No. 3 slot. First-years Brooke Morse-Karzen (Wilmette, Ill.) and Erika Blauth (Camden, Maine) put the Bobcats on the board with an 8-4 decision over Anisa McCree and Melissa Diskin. Morse-Karzen denied MIT a singles sweep as she outlasted Diskin, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 4 spot. Hansen picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win over Benisch in the No. 1 position as Vishnevetsky followed with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Piacquad. Wang defeated Anderson, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 3 slot while McCree topped Blauth, 6-3, 6-2. Pikhart wrapped up the action with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Gulliver in the No. 6 spot. In exhibition play, Jen Rees and Alex Hall posted an 8-2 doubles victory for the Engineers. Bates first-year Sangita Murali (South Dartmouth, Mass.) edged out Kerry Weinberg for a 9-7 win as Jenny Dohlman notched an 8-4 decision over Charlotte Matlack.
