Women place 14th out of 51 scoring teams at ECACs
March 7,
2009
The Bobcats finished the meet with 23 points, placing 14th out of 51 scoring teams. Alexander (Harvard, Mass.) finished second out of 20 competitors in the 500 meters with a time of 1:17.53, nearly a second ahead of Bowdoin's Grace Kerr and behind only Jacquelin Cinella of Rochester (1:16.39). A day after placing second in the shot put, Duncan (Topsham, Maine) scored six more points for the Bobcats by finishing third in the weight throw with a season-best throw of 54-07.50. The Bates 4x400 relay team of first-year Tina Tobin (Lowell, Mass.), sophomore Dana Lindauer (Needham, Mass.), senior Jen Marino (Methuen, Mass.) and Alexander ran a strong time of 4:04.45 to finish 10th out of 20 teams. On Friday at ECACs, Duncan heaved the shot put 42-11.75, second only to Alyssa Pirinelli of St. Lawrence out of 19 competitors at the meet. And Marino triple-jumped 36-08.50 to place eighth out of 24 competitors and earn a point for the Bobcats. Bates now waits to see who has qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, to be held at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., on March 14-15. |
