First-year Meg Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.) clinched the match with her three-set victory over Heather Richardson at No. 3 singles, after Bates (2-2) swept all three doubles points from the Lyons (5-6), who were playing their spring season opener. Elise Marifian won Mt. Holyoke's point at No. 2 singles over Bates junior Alex Piacquad (Yardley, Pa.). Senior captain Caryn Benisch (Huntington, N.Y.) won convincingly at both first singles and first doubles for Bates, teaming up with Piacquad at No. 1 doubles. First-years Brooke Morse-Karzen (Wilmette, Ill.) and Erika Blauth (Camden, Maine) teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles and took their singles matches as well. Anderson and junior Jean Gulliver (Falmouth, Maine) did the same at No. 3 doubles. Bates next plays at NESCAC rival Middlebury on Sunday, March 15 at 2 p.m. Bates 8, Mount Holyoke 1 Doubles Singles |
