LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College field hockey team put six players on the 2008 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Thursday, after the team earned a 2008 National Academic Team Award on Monday.

The six Bobcats named to the 2008 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, for athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the Fall 2008 semester, are first-year Amanda Brusca (Beverly, Mass.), senior Abby Childs (Philadelphia, Pa.), sophomore Zoe Donaldson (Bronxville, N.Y.), sophomore Morgan Lynch (Hingham, Mass.), first-year Sarah Merullo (Essex, Mass.) and sophomore Diane Saunders (Durham, N.C.).

Bates is one of 102 teams in Division III to receive the award, which goes to teams that post mean grade point averages of 3.0 or higher.
