Men's lacrosse defeated at No. 5 Tufts

2009 MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bates College men's lacrosse team lost 22-3 at No. 5 nationally ranked Tufts University on Tuesday night, and will look to rebound with a three-game home stand that begins this weekend against Connecticut College. Ryan Molloy scored eight goals with two assists for the Jumbos, who remained undefeated this year at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Bates sophomore Evan Bagley (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) scored on an assist by John Adams (Bloomfield, Conn.) to cut the Jumbos' first-quarter lead in half to 2-1, but Molloy scored five consecutive goals, the final four assisted by D.J. Hessler, as the Jumbos began to pull away in the second quarter, entering halftime with an 8-1 lead. Bates first-years George O'Connor (Loudenville, N.Y.) and Jason Hichborn (Yarmouth, Maine) scored unassisted goals for the Bobcats (2-7, 0-5 NESCAC). First-year Adam Scharff (Glyndon, Md.) made 15 saves in net for Bates in 56:40, then gave way to first-year Rich Bedford (Hillsdale, N.J.), who allowed no goals and made no saves in the game's final 3 minutes and 20 seconds. Bates will host Connecticut College on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Bobcats' first home game in the last four contests. |
