Today's events and programs

SHORT TERM IM LEAGUES.  Planning to be here for Short Term?  Get involved in an Intramural league!  Many activities for you to participate in:  slow pitch softball, bowling, wallyball, 4v4 flag football, squash, and racquetball.  Registration will begin April 1st and continue until each league is filled!  Get your team organized NOW!

Working on a paper? Get some feedback tonight about your writing from experienced Bates peer writing assistants. The Peer Writing Center in Ladd is open from 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday nights as well as Sunday afternoons from 1 to 5. No appointment necessary--just stop by with your paper and assignment and enjoy some constructive conversation about your writing. See you there!

Looking for a supportive study environment?  Try MCC STUDY NIGHTS Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-9pm, Multicultural Center, 2nd Floor Lounge.

Upcoming events and announcements

TO REMAIN ON CAMPUS in the residences and to have access to the dining services DURING THE SHORT TERM, students must be in one of the following categories:
(1) Be enrolled in a Short Term Unit,
(2) Be a graduating senior who already has completed three units AND is engaged in an approved work or voluntary work on campus or in the community (form required from the Dean of Students Office),
(3) Be a full-time Voluntary Teaching Assistant approved by a Faculty member for a Unit,
(4) Be a full-time Research Assistant approved by a Faculty member (form required from the Dean Of Students Office),
(5) Be a participant on an intercollegiate varsity team in season (sport term - access on campus ends at season's conclusion).
Students not involved in one of the categories above will not be allowed to stay on campus nor have dining privileges for the Short Term.

It's the academic event of the year!  The Eighth MOUNT DAVID SUMMIT, Bates College's annual celebration of student academic achievement, will take place on Friday, April 3, 2009. The Bates Gamelan Orchestra will kick off the day's events at 2:30 PM in the Perry Atrium of Pettengill Hall. Over 280 students will participate in this year's Summit. In Pettengill Hall, concurrent sessions will take place throughout the afternoon, in which students will present research posters, short talks, panel discussions, a photography exhibition, and film screenings. The Summit will culminate in the evening in a concert by Bates College Modern Dance Company at 7:30 PM in Schaeffer Theatre.  Don't miss YOUR FRIENDS' presentation at the Annual MOUNT DAVID SUMMIT.  Lots of food--lots of fun.  See exactly WHO is doing WHAT and WHEN at http://www.bates.edu/mt-david-summit.xml .

This weekend FILMBOARD proudly presents Slumdog Millionaire!!!  After coming within one question of winning 20 million rupees on the Indian version of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" 18-year-old Mumbai "slumdog" Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) is arrested on suspicion of cheating. While in custody, Jamal regales a jaded police inspector (Irfan Khan) with remarkable tales of his life on the streets, as well as the story of Latika (Freida Pinto), the woman he loved and lost. Danny Boyle's film won a Golden Globe and Oscar for Best Picture. Show times are Friday at 7 and 9:30, Saturday at 2 and 7, and Sunday at 2 and 4:30 in Olin 104.  NOTE: due to popular demand, defiance was switched with Slumdog Millionaire, so previous posters are wrong.  In addition, the Wednesday (April 8) show previously scheduled to be The Spirit has been switched with Academy Award winning The Reader.  As always, admission is only $1 No better way to catch up on movies from this past fall or watch them again!
